Make a ruffled tote bag with a beginner sewing pattern. This bag sewing project has ruffles or piping, and is great for combining fabrics.

Do you have beautiful fabrics that you love, and you don’t know what to do with them? Do you want to create a gorgeous tote bag that combines mutliple prints?

Do you also want to make a beautiful tote bag with interesting details that isn’t too hard or time consuming? And it can be made all on a sewing machine?

This simple Ruffle Tote Bag sewing pattern is fun to sew, and it shows off all your favorite fabrics. You can make it with ruffles, piping, other trim, or no trim. I had so much fun picking and pairing fabrics together for the tote bags that I made.

IMAGINE:

  • Creating a beautiful tote bag with your favorite fabrics
  • Being brave enough to cut and sew that precious fabric
  • Finishing the tote bag with only your sewing machine
  • Enjoying the tote bag to carry your needs for years to come
  • Making fun and cute ruffled tote bags for friend and family gifts

This simple ruffle tote bag is enjoyable to sew. It’s as easy to sew as any other tote, but it has a little more structure than a basic canvas tote bag.

Ruffled Tote Bag Sewing Pattern with Ruffles

I had so much fun pairing different fabrics together to create different bags. My testers also created some amazing bags that I loved looking at.

This first one is a colorful floral print with a mint pocket and pink ruffles. I liked mixing and matching the details for a unique look.

This second one is a blue floral print with a navy blue pocket and ruffles. I liked a different look of matching the details. I also added a plastic snap to the front pocket to make it extra secure.

This third one done by a tester has a wonderful solid look with floral ruffles. I love that the print is on the ruffles. The sides are yellow and the pocket is yellow for a really colorful but simple. There’s also a matching floral patch pocket inside the bag for a fun detail.

Ruffled Tote Bag Sewing Pattern with Piping

This first one is a gray striped quilting cotton so I had a lot of fun changing the direction of the stripes. I kept with the simple look and added white piping to the front. I love this understated look, and I feel like this could go feminine or masculine depending on your needs.

This second one made by a tester is so colorful! I love this look and never would’ve thought to put these prints and colors together. There is a colorful pink animal print fabric on the front, back, and straps paired with a colorful blue animal print fabric on the sides and pocket. Then the piping and lining is made with a bold black and white fabric. The fabrics work so well together!

I do love a basic canvas tote bag and have made several, but this ruffled tote bag sewing pattern is step up in looks and function. It isn’t any harder to sew than a basic canvas tote bag, so it’s a great design for beginner. It’s even great for advanced sewists because you can customize it with fabric and details. It’s so fun to create and make something yours!
