Make the Squish Stuffed Animal Sewing Pattern for the softest and easiest stuffies. Mix and match the details for all sorts of animals.
Do you know any kids that are obsessed with stuffed animals? My kids LOVE stuffed animals. One of my kids has a huge collection that she loves organizing in her room.
I love the idea of making stuffed animals, but I’m not the type that enjoys an involved and detailed stuffed animal sewing project. I wanted to make a stuffed animal pattern like a Squishmallow because a fair amount of the harder details are eliminated.
Last year I started developing a pattern and after making so many stuffed animals, I present the Squish Stuffed Animal Sewing Pattern. It is inspired by a Squishmallow, but it is changed to make it easier to sew and lots of the details can be mixed and matched so you can make lots of different animals!

IMAGINE:
- Seeing your kid snuggling a stuffed animal of their favorite animal
- Seeing your kid snuggling a stuffed animal that YOU made
- Having a sewing pattern that as a base makes four animals, but can be switched up to make 9 or more animals
- Can be mixed and matched with lots of different knit fabrics so you can create custom colors and textures
- Developing your skills of sewing slippery knit fabric
- Making lots of fun stuffed animals to give away as gifts
- Enjoying sewing and finishing a fun sewing project
I made several versions as I was testing the sizes and details, and my kids are begging to have them. I can’t wait to give them away as gifts and have the sewing pattern as a handmade gift option in the future.

Squish Stuffed Animal Sewing Pattern
This sewing pattern is a round stuffed animal head with a flat bottom. There are different pieces that are sewing into the seams like ears and wings, and the face details that are sewn to the front as an applique. There is a tummy piece that can be made out of a different color. There are four darts on the top and bottom to give the stuffed animal a sphere shape.
Fox Stuffed Animal
The fox version has pointed ears. There is a large eye patch piece with eyes and a nose sewn on top. There is also a tummy piece. It’s fun to mix and match the colors to make a different looking fox. The fox can become a cat, raccoon, or lamb.

Bear Stuffed Animal
The bear version has rounded ears that can be folded or left flat. There are eyes and a muzzle with a nose sewn on top. There is also a tummy piece. It’s fun to mix and match the colors to make a different looking bear. The bear can become a frog, tiger, or leopard.

Dog Stuffed Animal
The dog version has large rounded point ears that hang down next to the face. There are eyes and a muzzle with a nose sewn on top. There is also a spot that can be placed wherever you want. There is a tummy piece. It’s fun to mix and match the colors to make a different looking dog.

Dragon Stuffed Animal
The dragon version has rounded ears that are folded. There are two horns and two wings. There are eyes and a muzzle with nostril holes on top. There is a tummy piece. It’s fun to mix and match the colors to make a different looking dragon. The dragon can become a unicorn, cow, bat, or horse.

What fabric works for the Squish Stuffed Animal sewing pattern?
This sewing pattern works best with a stable knit fabric. If it’s squishy and soft it’s an extra bonus. The fabrics that the testers and I used are stretchy velour, minky, faux fur, sweatshirting, and some types of French Terry.
I didn’t love sewing the squishy, soft, slippery knit fabric when I first started working on this pattern, but I’ve come to figure out how to work with it. If you are patient and pin a lot, a confident beginner can work with this pattern.
Do I need interfacing for this pattern?
You are welcome to use interfacing for the ears, horsn, and wings if you want, but I didn’t use any interfacing and loved the soft and squishable result.
There are recommendations to use a fusible double sided adhesive to stitch the face pieces onto the body, and it makes it a really easy to sew. I don’t think I could do the face without some sort of double sided adhesive.

This pattern is great for kids and grandkids. You can make their favorite animal or use their favorite colors. It’s a great pattern to make handmade gifts for any time of the year.

These are precious. Great for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Did you stuff them with polyfil?
That’s a great idea! I did stuff mine with polyfil.
