Of all the make believe play toys my kids have had, one of their very favorites has been two baby dolls. They may or may not play house, but the baby dolls are always somehow included in their games. They often ask for a backpack or carrier to carry their dolls.

I designed a sweet little basket with two handles that is the perfect doll basket or even just a doll bed that they can play with!

I made two different baby doll baskets since I have two daughters, and they have two dolls. They also have tons and tons of stuffies that can also be carried in the baskets. I tested out two different ways to make the pillows and blankets, and I had so much fun picking out different fabrics and quilting the layers together.

Baby Doll Basket Sewing Pattern

Basket with handles:

The sewing pattern teaches you how to make an oval basket with two handles. The layers are stabilized and quilted for a stable and pretty look. All the edges are either enclosed or finished with bias binding.

Pillow and blanket:

The sewing pattern includes a pillow and a blanket that fits inside the basket. You can make the pillow thin or cushioned depending on the look you want.

You can make the blanket out of quilting cotton, flannel, or double gauze, or you can even piece fabric together to make a quilt. You can quilt the layers however you’d like.

Baby Doll Basket pattern features:

The basket comes in 1 size: 10 inches wide, 14 inches long, and 5 inches tall
The pillow is 5 inches wide and 4 inches long. The blanket is 10 inches wide and 13 inches long.
Uses any quilting cotton fabric for all parts of the basket, pillow, and blanket.
Add fusible interfacing and fusible fleece between the layers for strength and stability.

This doll basket fits dolls and stuffies up to 15 inches tall. Anything smaller also fits!

What fabric works for the Baby Doll Basket sewing pattern?

The fabric that works best for a baby doll basket is quilting cotton for both the outer fabric and the lining fabric. There are so many prints and colors to use. You can mix and match fat quarters for some of the parts, but you will need yardage for some pattern pieces.

This pattern is useful for both baby dolls and stuffies, and it makes such a great gift for playful kids. There’s so many different prints you can use for the basket to make it uique and fun.
