Make use of all those organic cotton scraps of fabric by easily sewing or serging them into DIY reusable cotton rounds. They are great for removing make up!

When you sew you always end up with lots and lots of fabric scraps. Sometimes I feel guilty about throwing them away, and sometimes I don’t. If it’s larger than my hand I usually keep it unless I really love it.

A really easy way to use up those scraps of fabric is to turn them into DIY reusable cotton pads. I love using these every night as part of my night time routine. I don’t mind having to wash them every week to keep up.

This scrap fabric project is great for saving money, saving time, and saving the environment! I don’t actually use mine to remove my make up, but I do use it to wipe toner on my face every night and every morning.

You will save time with this sewing project because you’ll never have to buy cotton balls again, and this project is very fast. It’s a great makeup remover if you need it! This is such a great beginner sewing project!

WHY REUSABLE?

You’ll save money because you’ll use up scraps that you already have, and you won’t have to buy cotton balls. I think it would be perfect to send off with your college student to school so they don’t have to worry about buying cotton balls!

You’ll save the environment because you won’t be creating more waste or creating a need for more cotton.

Supplies

  • Scraps of cotton woven or knit fabric like quilting cotton, cotton spandex, cotton lawn, etc. I recommend organic cotton if possible.
  • Sewing Tools
  • A serger or sewing machine (either works!)

Cut out a bunch of three inch circles from your scraps of fabric. You can use cotton interlock, cotton spandex jersey, quilting cotton, or any other soft cotton woven fabric. It’s just important that you use cotton.

I wish I would have done all stretch cotton and quilting cotton fabric because those are the softest.

Optional: use the Cricut Maker to cut out all your circles. You can layer your cotton and cut three layers at once! I love a fun and easy Cricut Maker sewing project!

Place the circle wrong sides together. I paired woven fabrics with woven fabrics and woven fabrics with knit fabrics.

Zigzag or serge around the edges.

Wash the DIY reusable cotton rounds before using on your face.

I store my cotton rounds in my drawer, and once I use them I throw them in a small open weave laundry bag. Then I throw the whole bag in the washer and dryer to clean them all.

Can I use old t-shirts for this, or does it have to be a thick fabric?

Hi! Great way to use up scraps and care for the earth. And I love that there’s no messing with turning them right side out. I’ll probably use three layers and/or flannel for absorbency.
