Statement Bow Sewing Pattern

The Statement Bow sewing pattern is a large stiff bow that can be hung anywhere to be displayed. It can be made from one piece of fabric or it can be pieced and quilted for a unique look. The finished bow is about 16 inches wide and 28 inches tall. It has three different end shapes that you can choose from.

Dovetail End

The dovetail end is a center point cut out of the end creating two points on each side. It looks like the end of a ribbon cut into two points to prevent fraying.

Angled End

The angled end is a 60 degree cut creating one obtuse angled corner and one acute angled corner. It looks like the end of a ribbon cut on the bias to prevent fraying.

Squared End

This is an squared off end with 90 degree corners. It looks like the end of a ribbon cut straight across.

The Statement Bow sewing pattern features:

• The bow can be made from one fabric or two different ways of piecing the fabric together.
• It uses both fusible interfacing and fusible fleece to create a stiff and plush bow.
• All kinds of quilting cotton can be used so you can use all those gorgeous prints you love.
• Get out all your scraps of fabric and enjoy piecing them together to make a patchwork bow.
• The seams are all enclosed and can be completely sewing on a sewing machine.

What fabric works for the Statement Bow sewing pattern?

The fabric that is best for the statement bow is quilting cotton. You can find any print and color imaginable in quilting cotton. Quilting cotton is easy to find and easy to sew. You can cut up woven shirts, bed sheets, and tablecloths to use as fabric for this bow.

You can piece all of your fabric scraps together to make enough yardage for a Statement bow. You can make a Valentine, a St Patrick’s Day, a Easter, a 4th of July, a Back to School, a Halloween, a Thanksgiving, and a Christmas bow depending on the fabrics and colors that you choose.

Do I need interfacing or batting for this pattern?

Yes, you need both interfacing and batting for this bow pattern. You need interfacing to give the bow structure and help it hold it’s shape. The bow will droop without interfacing. I prefer using fusible interfacing to make it easier to apply and stay in place.

You need batting to give the bow a cushioned plush look. Quilting the layers together will aid in the cozy quilted look. I prefer using fusible fleece because you get a little bit of loft but the fusible fleece stays where you iron it. It is a great option for beginners.

This pattern is great for anyone who loves sewing and quilting, especially is they love sewing for holidays. It’s a beginner friendly pattern and can used again and again. It’s not a quick sewing project to put together, but it’s very satisfying and enjoyable to create!
