I tried out some sewing tools to streamline my sewing room, and I share all my favorites. These have all made a difference in my sewing.
I’m often trying new sewing tools as I make and sew. It helps me find new products I love, and it keeps me from getting stuck in a rut. These are some recent (within the last year) sewing tools that I purchased myself, and they have become new favorites in my sewing room.
I did not link to any sewing machines in this post, because I have another post full of the best sewing machine for sewing clothes. Sewing machines really vary by what you are sewing and what you can afford.
Also, I’m frugal and like to sew to save money so most of these ideas are budget and beginner friendly options. If you are learning how to sew, you can start with sewing 101 for beginners!
New Sewing Tools I Love
I tried out some sewing tools to streamline my sewing room, and I share all my favorites. These have all made a difference in my sewing practive.
Leather Scissor Tabs
I love this way for labeling scissors. The leather looks so nice and the label is nice as big. The leather is really soft so it doesn't irritate my hands or get in the way. I have one on my big shears and on my tiny scissors.
White Iron-on Labels
I love a good label and these ones are amazing. They are made to be on knit fabric so they move and stretch with the fabric, but they are soft and don't irritate your skin. They can be ironed with just a regular iron, and they are really cute.
Kylie and the Machine Clothing Tags 2022 Countdown Calendar
I did the tag countdown calendar last year, and it was so enjoyable to see what new tags there were each day. Each day had three tags, so I'm going to have tags for awhile!
Sewing Stickers
I love a good sewing sticker and have slowly been collecting them. I love all of these stickers but I chose the heart sewist with all the little sewing icons. Its so cute!
Magnetic Seam Guides for a Sewing Machine
This seam guide is not recommended for electronic sewing machines, but I actually bought it to help my daughter learn to sew and follow the seam guide. The magnet goes onto the foot plate next to the sewing machine foot to guide her. I love it!
Cricut Bright™ 360 the Ultimate LED Table Lamp
Every time I turn my machine on and this lamp turns on, I'm grateful that I have it. The lighting is perfect and makes such a difference in my sewing room. I'm not straining my eyes anymore!
Narwhal Tape Dispenser
I've been using a tape dispenser for awhile and love the ease of it, but it just broke and I needed a new one. I picked this cute narwhal one since it's just adorable!
Dritz Bobbin Boat
I've struggled with bobbin storage for years because with my current set up I need something long and thin. All the bobbin storage I've seen online is wide or square. I've been using two bobbin boats for awhile and it's the perfect solution to my problem. It fits nicely in my drawer, and each boat holds ten bobbins.
Clover White Ergonomic Seam Ripper
I've done a whole post reviewing seam rippers, and this one was the clear winner. I love the Clover seam ripper.
Dritz Thread Cutter Caddy with Magnetic Sides”
I often do hand sewing on the couch at night while I watch a sew. This little caddy is the perfect way to carry the tiny tools around. The sides are magnetic so I don't lose needles or pins, and there's a little thread cutter on the top handle so I don't have to carry scissors with me.
Madam Sew Wool Pressing Mat
I've tried different pressing and ironing boards for my little ironing space and this one is the best. The wool is great for protection the surface underneath and getting the fabric hot and steamed. It always looks nice too!
EverSewn 8 inch Tailor Scissors
I've gone through a couple of different scissors, and right now these are my favorite shears. They are big and sharp, but they are comfortable for my hand. I love the color, and that they stay sharp.
Gutermann All-Purpose Best Sellers Thread Color Pack
I'm the person that always forgets to match thread when I buy fabric, so to fix my problem I finally bought Gutermann thread in all the best seller colors. Now I'll always have thread that's pretty close to matching.
If you make something using one of these sewing tools, I’d love to see! Please share it on social media with the hashtag #heatherhandmade and tag me!
