Make a cute heart zipper pouch with a free sewing pattern. It’s a great size for pens, hair stuff, or treats. This is a great project for Valentine’s day or for back to school, and I love using pouches to organize my home or my different bags.
Add a loop and a lobster claw to one side so it can clip onto a backpack or add a strap so it can become a purse. It’s really easy to customize!
What fabric works for a zipper pouch?
The fabric that works best for a zipper pouch is quilting cotton for both the outer fabric and the lining fabric. There are so many prints that will be fun to use. Add interfacing to give stability to the pouch and help it hold its shape.
What is a pdf sewing pattern?
A PDF pattern is a sewing pattern designed on the computer and organized so that it can be printed on several letter or A4 size pieces of paper.
I love using PDF sewing patterns because if the pattern gets ruined or if my children or I changed sizes, I can always print it again. It’ll never be destroyed since I have a digital version!
How do you use a PDF sewing pattern?
Open the PDF on a computer and click print. When printing make sure that the scaling is set to 100% or no scaling so that the pattern prints at the correct size.
Once the pattern is printed it can be taped together to get the full size. Then the pattern can be cut for each pattern piece size or individual sizes can be traced so that the pattern can be used again and again. Learn how to use PDF sewing patterns.

Cut out three outer fabric pieces, three lining fabric pieces, and three interfacing pieces.
Apply the interfacing to the back of all the outer fabric pieces.
Organize the front pieces to one side with matching pieces and to the other side with matching pieces.
Pin the outer piece and matching lining piece to one side of the zipper tape. Sew the three layers together with a zipper foot. Backstitch when you start and when you stop.
Press the fabric away from the zipper. Edgestitch next to the seam to keep the fabric out of the zipper.
Pin the opposite outer piece and matching lining piece to the other side of the zipper tape. Sew the three layers together with a zipper foot. Backstitch when you start and when you stop.
Press the fabric away from the zipper. Edgestitch next to the seam to keep the fabric out of the zipper.
Layer the lining heart right sides together with the lining zipper heart, and then layer the outer heart right sides together with the outer zipper heart. Pin all the layers together.
Sew around the heart with a 3/8 inch seam allowance and leave a 2 inch hole for turning. Backstitch when you start and when you stop.
Clip the top point. Trim the bottom point. Notch the outer curves.
Turn the pouch right side out through the hole.
Use a point turner to poke out the curves and the point.
Press the zipper pouch flat with the seam allowance tucked inside the hole.
Edgestitch around the heart to keep the edges nice and to close the hole.

Can’t wait to get heart pattern!
Really cute pattern. My sewing girls are gonna live it
thank you!
I just made this for my little girl for Valentine’s Day and love how fast I was able to make it. I have 4 little ones so fast patterns can be so satisfying. I think I will make a bigger one and add a long purse handle next time. I did have trouble turning at the end but I may have just left too small a hole for turning. Thanks for this adorable pattern!!
Yay! That’s so exciting!
