Easy DIY Peter Pan Costumes for the Whole Family

Learn how to put together DIY Peter Pan costumes. This is a fun family costume for Halloween that has a recognizable individual character.
This year my family dressed up as characters from the Peter Pan story. They are a little interpreted from different Peter Pan movies that have come out over the years, but we simplified a little bit to make it easier to create the costumes. We love doing DIY family costumes.
We had so much fun dreaming up these costumes, putting them together, and becoming the characters. We got to wear these costumes at a couple of different gatherings and parties this year, and we had so much fun! It’s a great family costume because you can choose these five characters or add in other characters from the story!.

DIY Peter Pan Family Costumes
DIY Peter Pan Costume
The key character in this family costume is Peter Pan. Luckily, my son was willing to be the main character. His costume was really easy to DIY. I bought an oversized green t-shirt* and cut the hem in a zigzag pattern. Then I found some oversized green-ish pants at the thrift store and cut them into shorts with a zigzag pattern.
I made the hat out of green felt using this free Peter Pan hat sewing pattern. We skipped the feather to make it simpler. He’s also wearing not belt or shoes for this picture, but he’ll probably have to wear both later in the month when it gets colder. He will also have to wear long socks and a long sleeve shirt underneath to keep him warm.

Even though they are siblings, this would also be a great option if you needed an easy DIY couple costume.

DIY Peter Pan’s Shadow Costume
This family costume idea started when my youngest daughter wanted to wear a dark full bodysuit costume*. We wanted to add more to the costume, and it turned into a Peter Pan family costume. Isn’t great when your kids come up with fun costumes?!
I bought an oversized black t-shirt* and cut the hem in a zigzag pattern just like the green t-shirt. Then I found some oversized blacks pants at the thrift store and cut them into shorts with a zigzag pattern just like the green t-shirt.
I made the hat out of black felt using this free Peter Pan hat sewing pattern. We also skipped the feather to make it simpler.

Don’t they look so great together!? I loved watching my daughter walk around and copy her brother. They had so much fun together. Even though they are siblings, this would also be a great option if you needed an easy DIY couple costume.

DIY Wendy Costume
My oldest daughter was the perfect fit for Wendy. She’s got brown hair and is right in between her brother and sister in size.
I bought this blue dress* for her costume. She already had the black shoes. I curled her hair and pulled it half up, and we cut a blue ribbon for her hair.

I was surprised at how well the dress was made, and hopefully we can use it for other costumes in the future! I love that even if you saw her without all of the other costumes, you’d probably still be able to tell who she is.

DIY Captain Hook Costume
I was really excited to put the Captain Hook costume together. I started with a white button up shirt that I made, and black jeans and black boots from my closet. I thrifted this red coat! I must have had thrifting magic that day, because it’s the perfect coat for this costume.

I made the hat with my free bucket hat sewing pattern. I used red faux suede* and added two rows of gold trim*. Both the red faux suede and gold trim are leftovers from other costumes, so it was great to use them!
I pulled up three of the sides and tacked them to the top of the hat to give it the pirate look. This is a great pirate hat that we can use as an accessory in the future!
I purchased the plastic hand hook* and the stick on mustache* to complete the look. I curled my hair in tight ringlet curls and didn’t comb it so that it would look like a wig.

Of course Captain Hook has to chase and fight Peter Pan. It’ll be so fun to play the characters and chase each other around at parties and gatherings.

DIY Mr. Smee Costume
Of course my husband got the funny and silly costume with Mr. Smee. I love this costume becuase it was so easy to put together. I bought this striped t-shirt and then he wore shorts and sandals that he already hat.
We had a red hat I made last year with the free santa hat sewing pattern. It is a true Santa hat, but we tucked the white brim inside, and it’s the perfect red Mr. Smee hat.

This is a very fun DIY couple costume idea, and we can’t wait to walk around as the characters and playing off each other.
