DIY Goldilocks and the Three Bears Costume

Learn how to put together a DIY goldilocks and three bears costume. This Halloween costume is perfect for a family or group of friends.

My family got to act out a little Goldilocks and the Three Bears skit in our cities “family-friendly haunted storybook walk”. We threw costumes together with what we had which worked out great.

This is a very easy costume to throw together last minute. It works for a family or a group of friends. There are only four characters, but as you can see in the photos we made it work two different ways. We did it with one adult and three kids, and we also did it with two adults and two kids. It’s a pretty flexible group costume!

We live somewhere where October is cold. Each one of us have lots of layers on, gloves, hats, ear warmers, etc. This costume idea shows all of us dressing warm, but you can easily choose different items for warm weather or being inside (like in a play).

What do I need to make a Goldilock and the Three Bears Costume?

Goldilocks

Both of my daughters got to act out Goldilocks so we used two different costumes.

The base of the costume is a long woven maxi dress. One daughter had a long floral maxi dress (made it for this costume), and she layered a long sleeve tee underneath and a cardigan on top. It was a cold night.

Then we added a gingham apron. This one is my friends, but you can use this free apron sewing pattern to make one. She also wore gloves and a hat.

I curled her hair and added little girl make up with freckles.

This daughter wore a different maxi dress with a layered skirt, the same apron, and the same cardigan. She also wore gloves.

Since her hair is so long we did pigtails and curls with her little girl make up with freckles.

Three Bears

For the bears we use two furry vests and a furry faux sherpa jacket. We all wore dark clothes underneath from our closet.

We added purchased headband bear ears and bear face make up. If you want to make quick ears, you can make some with my free ear sewing pattern. Just make the ears rounded instead of pointed. The make up and ears are what make this costume recognizable.

It’s also great to let baby bear have a little stuffed animal to look like a baby bear.

We traded the vests and jackets around for a different bear family. The ears and make up still make the costume. It’s great that three people being bears is so easy!

We acted out a little skit and the three bears would jump out and chase goldilocks. It was really fun to act out, and it was really fun to be Goldilocks and the Three bears!
