Christmas Tree Skirt Sewing Pattern with florals
I had some beautiful maroon and pink floral fabric fat quarters that I love. I really wanted to use it to decorate for Christmas, and these fabrics are where I started to design the pattern. I needed the pattern piece to work with fat quarters but would show the fabric as much as possible.
I used 4 floral fat quarters in maroon and pink, and then I added both a peach and off-white fat quarter. Each fat quarter is used twice which you can see if you look around the whole circle.
This Christmas tree skirt has quilting on each side of the seam, and then maroon bias binding on all the edges. I organized the fabrics so that each half is a repeat, so I can see all the fabrics from the front of the tree.
I skipped adding a closure because the layers help way down the Christmas tree skirt and adding something will take more time.
Christmas Tree Skirt Sewing Pattern with holiday prints
For this Christmas tree version, I purchased a modern holiday print fat quarter bundle with directional prints. The fat quarters were printed so that the print went with the long edge of the fat quarter (technically sideways) so I was working with a unique cut.
I used 4 twice since I could work with the print being off-center. Then I used 4 more with the print centered so they are only seen once.
I coordinated the colors so that the green, dark pink, and light pink alternated around the whole skirt. I love these fun prints together!
This Christmas tree skirt has quilting on each side of the seam and then another line down the center of each fabric. I used one of the fat quarters to make bias binding for the edges, and I had enough for everything except the very center. I used a bias binding scrap for the center, and it’s a fun pop of color.
I skipped adding a closure because the layers help way down the Christmas tree skirt and adding something will take more time.
When I first started sewing for the holidays, I would buy beautiful holiday fabric and then wouldn’t use it. I was so in love with the fabric that I was afraid to use it and cut it. I wanted to decorate my home with these fabrics, but I needed courage and project ideas that didn’t cut the fabric too small.
I looked for ideas, but I wasn’t happy with any projects I saw. I wanted easy and quick that would show off the fabric prints. I started designing my own holiday projects that would show off the fabric I loved.
Some of the projects I’ve made are:
- Christmas sewing projects
- Free Christmas sewing patterns
- Fair Isle Christmas tree Skirt
- Fleece Christmas tree skirt
- Faux fur Christmas tree skirt
