What is a PDF sewing pattern?

A PDF pattern is a sewing pattern designed on the computer and organized so that it can be printed on several letter or A4 size pieces of paper.

I love using PDF sewing patterns because if the pattern gets ruined or if my children or I changed sizes, I can always print it again. It’ll never be destroyed since I have a digital version!

How do you use a PDF sewing pattern?

Open the PDF on a computer and click print. When printing make sure that the scaling is set to 100% or no scaling so that the pattern prints at the correct size.

Once the pattern is printed it can be taped together to get the full size. Then the pattern can be cut for each pattern piece size or individual sizes can be traced so that the pattern can be used again and again. Learn how to use PDF sewing patterns.

Upcycled Shorts, Pants, and Bloomers Sewing Pattern

About five years ago I started making shorts for my baby girl. I wanted it to be fast and easy, and I wanted to avoid hemming. I tried making baby shorts from a t-shirt, and I developed the free baby shorts and bloomers pattern.

I loved reusing the hems and using the hem as a casing! I’ve reused this technique over the years, and I’m so proud to offer the pattern for bigger kids and three more views!

Upcycled Shorts – Mid Thigh Length

This view is a mid thigh length of shorts, and works well with any adult item of clothing. You can use stretch or non-stretch fabric, and it reuses the original hem. It works well with hem details on the side.

This size 5 pair of shorts was made with a men’s medium t-shirt.

UPCYCLED SHORTS – Bloomers

This view is a pair of bloomers that is the mid thigh length but adding elastic brings in the leg for a gathered look. I recommend using stretch fabric from  t-shirts, dresses, and skirts since you need a hem that can become a casing.

This size 2T pair of bloomers was made with a women’s large dress.

UPCYCLED SHORTS – Knee LENGTH

This view is a knee length of shorts, and works well with any adult item of clothing. You can use stretch or non-stretch fabric, and it reuses the original hem. It works well with hem details on the side.

This size 6 pair of shorts was made with a men’s medium sweater.

UPCYCLED PANTS – cuffed LEG

This view is a pair of pants that hits the ankle with added elastic to bring it in. It’s the modern jogger look. This view works well in knits and wovens as long as the hem is 1/2 inch or larger since you need a hem that can become a casing.

This size 4 pair of pants was made with a women’s medium dress.

Thank you for this tutorial! I downloaded the pattern, but I am having difficulties viewing the video. There doesn’t seem to be sound and the video is very glitchy. The ads work fine. I can hear the sound and it is clear.
