What is a fabric glasses stand? How does it work?
This is a fabric glasses stand that when snapped closed, it creates a cone shape that helps it stand up. It also has a section that pokes up the can hold the glasses.
When you unsnap the snaps and open the stand, the eyeglass stand lays flat and takes up almost no space. It can be placed inside a bag and carried wherever you need it to go.
What fabric should I use to make a DIY eyeglass stand?
These fabric eyeglass stands work great when they are made out of quilting cotton. Quilting cotton is easy to sew and easy to find, and it comes in all sorts of fabrics and colors.
What interfacing should I use to make an eyeglass stand?
These eyeglass stands need a lot of added stability to be able to stand up and hold glasses. It’s best to use medium to heavy weight fusible interfacing for these fabric stands.
What is a PDF sewing pattern?
A PDF pattern is a sewing pattern designed on the computer and organized so that it can be printed on several letter or A4 size pieces of paper.
I love using PDF sewing patterns because if the pattern gets ruined or if my children or I changed sizes, I can always print it again. It’ll never be destroyed since I have a digital version!
How do you use a PDF sewing pattern?
Open the PDF on a computer and click print. When printing make sure that the scaling is set to 100% or no scaling so that the pattern prints at the correct size.
Once the pattern is printed it can be taped together to get the full size. Then the pattern can be cut for each pattern piece size or individual sizes can be traced so that the pattern can be used again and again. Learn how to use PDF sewing patterns.

- Free sewing pattern – get it at the end of this post
- 6 inch by 6 inch pieces of quilting cotton
- 6 inch by 6 inch pieces of medium to heavy weight fusible interfacing
- Plastic snaps
- Sewing tools
- Sewing machine
Instructions
Using the pattern piece, cut out two pieces of quilting cotton and two pieces of interfacing.
Trace the seam line onto the wrong side of the fabric or non-glue side of the interfacing.
I traced the lines onto the fabric and once I fused the interfacing I was still able to see the line, but it would have been easier to draw the line onto the interfacing.
Fuse the interfacing to the back of the fabric pieces.
Pin the pieces of fabric right sides together. Sew around the piece on the seam line you drew. Leave a two inch hole for turning on the wide round side. Backstitch when you start and when you stop.
Trim the seam allowances. Trim and notch the outer curves. Clip the inner curves.
Turn the piece right side out through the hole. Roll out the seams and press flat.
Tuck the seam allowance inside and pin. Edgestitch all the way around the stand and close the hole.
Add plastic snaps to the two “arms” of the stand.
Close the snaps which brings the arms together creating a cone with a section that pokes up and holds the glasses. You finished!
