Learn how to make a DIY dog paw towel to make cleaning dog paws easier. This dog sewing project is quick, easy, and helps keep floors clean.

Does your dog or dogs come to the door with muddy or wet feet? Do you wish you had something to quickly and easily wipe their feet? I love having a dog, but I hate the snowy, muddy, wet feet whenever he comes inside.

We usually had a big bath towel that we hang by the backdoor, but it’s kind of ugly and sometimes too big to be helpful. I made a DIY dog paw towel that is the right size to quickly clean his feet whenever he comes inside. It is also designed to fully cover and wipe his feet which makes it so much easier for me!

What is a DIY dog paw towel?

A DIY dog paw towel is a smaller towel that’s sewn into a kind of pocket or tube to make cleaning feet easier. There’s also a loop for hanging it to dry.

To use it you slide your hand through the two openings to the other side.

Grab your dogs paw with the hand that went through the towel.

Pull their paw into the pocket of the towel. Then use the towel to fully cover, wipe, and clean the paw. Repeat with the other paws!

What kind of material should I use?

You want to use absorbant material like terry cloth or an actual hand towel. You want something big enough to have room to clean paws without being overwhelmingly large. I use an extra long kitchen hand towel. It’s not thin but plush and absorbant. (You honestly could use an old hand towel and it would work great!)

Darker colors work great so you don’t worry about it getting stained!

Sew a square and “X” around the end of the ribbon and on the towel corners to secure the three layers together.

sew corner and loop in place

Two sides should be open with a corner sewn in between. The other two sides are a fold or sewn closed.
