What fabric to use to make a fabric egg?
The best fabric to use for a fabric egg is quilting cotton if you want a simple look and easy sewing. Quilting cotton is easy to sew and easy to find. You can use all your scrap fabric to make colorful and pretty eggs for Spring and Easter.
If you want to make the eggs for kids or for a certain project, you can also use fleece or sherpa for a softer look. This fabric can be a little trickier to use, so be careful when sewing the egg.
What stuffing to use for a fabric egg?
I used poly-fil to stuff these eggs, but you can use any stuffing. You can also use fabric scraps chopped up and shredded to stuff the eggs. You can also use poly-beads for a weighted bottom.
What is a PDF sewing pattern?
A PDF pattern is a sewing pattern designed on the computer and organized so that it can be printed on several letter or A4 size pieces of paper.
I love using PDF sewing patterns because if the pattern gets ruined or if my children or I changed sizes, I can always print it again. It’ll never be destroyed since I have a digital version!
How do you use a PDF sewing pattern?
Open the PDF on a computer and click print. When printing make sure that the scaling is set to 100% or no scaling so that the pattern prints at the correct size.
Once the pattern is printed it can be taped together to get the full size. Then the pattern can be cut for each pattern piece size or individual sizes can be traced so that the pattern can be used again and again. Learn how to use PDF sewing patterns.

Instructions
Cut out four pieces of fabric for each egg.
On the back of the fabric transfer the two dot markings near the two points.
Match up two pieces right sides together. Match the points, sides, and markings. Sew from marking to marking 3/8 inch from the edge. Backstitch when you start and when you stop.
Do the same to the other two pieces.
Match up two halves right sides together. Pin all the way around in a circle. The seam allowances should be pinned open and the seams lined up with each other. The points at the top and bottom might feel squished so pull the seam allowances and seams open.
Sew around the two halves with a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Leave a 1.5 inch hole and backstitch when you start and when you stop.
Trim the seam allowance at the top and at the bottom.
Turn the egg right side out. Push out the curves to make an egg shape.
Fill the egg with poly-fil. Fill it tightly so that the egg will keep it’s shape.
Get a hand needle and thread and start sewing the hole closed with a ladder stitch.
Finish sewing the hole closed and tie a knot. Pull the needle through the poly-fil and fabric to hide the tail inside and cut. You finished!
