Learn how to make fingerless gloves with an easy sewing pattern. This beginner sewing project keeps your hands warm but leaves fingers free.

Do you want your fingers to stay warm, but you also need to use them? These fingerless gloves are a great solution when it’s not too cold. The main part of the hand and thumb is covered in warm fabric like polar fleece, but the ends of the fingers are free to use a phone, hold a cup, or push a stroller.

Fingerless gloves work for the family since this pattern has sizes for children, teens, and adults, so it makes a great handmade gift!

I designed the fingerless glove sewing pattern to work for everyone. It’s a simple hemmed design with space for the fingers to curl inside if you need a little extra warmth. I also made the cuff extra tall to help keep them inside the sleeves.

What fabric works for this fingerless gloves sewing pattern?

These fingerless gloves are designed to be used with stable knit fabric. A stable knit fabric stretches horizontally, but it does not stretch vertically. Stable knit fabrics are polar fleece, sweatshirt fleece, French terry, etc. Check the stretch before you sew.

The fingerless gloves should be cut so that the stretch will go around the hand to make them comfortable.

For the cuff use rib knit to get a stretchy fabric that has good recovery.

Whenever I go outside in the winter, I need to wear gloves. I always end up taking them off to use my phone, to use keys, to give my dog a training treat, etc. I sometimes have to take them off to get something out of my pocket. It’s almost like I shouldn’t even wear gloves. BUT my hands are cold!

These fingerless gloves can give my hands a little bit of warmth, but keep my fingers free to use them.
