I just love this hanging Halloween sign. I love the tassels, the spooky font, and the black cat fabric in the background.

I have had it hanging in my house for a couple of weeks already because I wanted to enjoy it for longer! You can also get inspired by these other Halloween sign tutorials!

The great part about this sign is that can be completely customized. You can use a different Halloween fabric for the background. You could add purple or a brighter orange.

Choose a different Halloween word in iron-on vinyl like “scary”, “eerie”, “creepy”, or even a punny Halloween phrase. I used a Cricut Maker to make this sign, but you could make this with any cutting machine as long as you interface all the fabrics first.

I think the colorful tassels might be my favorite part. I love that it picks up the black of the cats and the peach of the oval. The gray and navy match the rest of my house decor, so it works really well.

You can also use a trim of pompoms, lace, feathers, or beads. Wouldn’t black feathers be just stunning?

Supplies

1. Gather your supplies. Cut all the pieces to fit in a cutting machine. If you have a Cricut Maker you can cut some of the fabric with the machine. If you have another machine you will have to interface all the fabrics first.

2. Cut out the pieces with your Cricut Maker. Two pieces will be cut with the knife and two pieces will be cut with the rotary blade.

You will have one iron-on vinyl word cut out, one fabric with double sided adhesive, and two pieces of cotton. If you don’t have a maker than these pieces can be interfaced.

3. Iron the iron-on vinyl word centered on the oval. I love using the EasyPress* when doing iron-on vinyl.

5. Peel off the backing from the double sided adhesive from the oval.

6. Iron it onto the center of the rectangle backing fabric. Sew a stitch with black thread around the edge of the oval.

7. Measure out the tassel trim along the bottom of the rectangle and baste it on. Part of my trim hung over the edge so that I could use a 1/4 inch seam allowance.

8. With ride sides together sew the other rectangle to the front of the sign. Sew around three sides but not the top. Make sure the tassels don’t get sewn into the seam.

9. Trim the two corners and turn the sign right side out.

10. Press the sign flat. Be careful to not iron over the iron-on vinyl, or it’ll get ruined.

11. Fold the top over 5/8 inch and sew to create a casing. Don’t worry about finishing the edges.

12. Slide a small dowel into the casing.
