Description

Pencil skirts are my very favorite skirts to wear. They work for lots of different fitted, semi-fitted, or loose tops. It’s cool for hot days, and it’s harder for kids or the wind to lift up. Pencil skirts can be dressy made for business attire, but they can also be made very casual for a weekend look. Make your own with this free pencil skirt sewing pattern!

A knit pencil skirt is a really simple shape and with this free pencil skirt pattern, it’s really simple to sew because there’s no hem to sew! The hardest part is probably creating the pattern because it’s time consuming, but it’s not that challenging. You can sew yourself a custom fit pencil skirt in all your favorite colors and prints for a whole handmade wardrobe!

This is a PDF downloadable guide that will help you measure yourself, create your own pencil skirt pattern, cut it out, and sew it. The instructions for creating the pattern have graphics to guide you, but the sewing instructions have just words. If you want the sewing instructions with pictures, find the pencil skirt tutorial with all the detailed pictures to make your own skirt.

For me the most comfortable skirt to wear is a knit pencil skirt. It’s stretchy, it’s flattering, and it doesn’t blow away in the wind. I rarely wear skirts for casual days, but I do wear knit pencil skirts during the summer! It’s cool for those really, really hot days.

Enjoy your gorgeous new knit pencil skirt that was so fast to make because there was no hem! The skirt is lined with the fashion fabric for a nice fitted feel, and it hides all lines under the skirt. Instagram post 2192505691510695136_380642737 When @deliacreates designed tidepool inspired fabric for @projectrunandplay I just had to buy it. My parents took our family to an area with tidepools several times when I was a child, and it's one of my favorite places. I love wearing this fabric inspired by my favorite place. It reminds me of all those adventures!
.
I made the #hudsonpants pattern because it's also a favorite. I only bought one yard so I had to use different fabric for the waistband. I even took a shortcut and sewed the tie in a now on the front instead of threading it through.
.
These are my go to pants for comfort and I just love them!

Instagram post 2191240894785693039_380642737 I love decorating for Christmas! I made this ornament last week and I love it. I lean towards simple decor with natural texture. I made a different leather ornament last year, and I love seeing them next to each other. Do you enjoy making Christmas ornaments?

Instagram post 2186509074722735611_380642737 I can wait for my kids to play with this Christmas tree! It's actually an Advent calendar and you hang up an ornament each day, but I know my kids will just decorate the tree over and over again. I love having decorations that can be touched and played with by little kids. I don't worry about anything breaking, and they have a Christmas activity to do while I do holiday prep.
There is a free pattern for this Advent calendar on the blog!

Instagram post 2185421770458512009_380642737 I've been using the #dreambox for a couple of months, but because I customize everything (I almost never sew a pattern as-is) I took the table off and added a side table for a different layout. This layout works perfectly in my sewing room, and I can watch my kids do art and homework while I sew. I couldn't fit the whole tour in a 1 minute video, but you can watch the whole thing on my blog or YouTube.
I was given the dreambox to review, but I bought the side table. @theoriginalscrapbox

Instagram post 2182530081140875402_380642737 Are you hosting a dinner next week? I will be celebrating Thanksgiving next week, but I've also already celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving. I love using cloth napkins since it feels luxurious, and they are reusable!
We have old ones were use as a family all the time, and it was time for some nice ones for nice dinners. I combined upcycled silk from @darngoodyarn and quilting cotton for strength and beauty.
What have you made for your kitchen?

Instagram post 2181372275121525713_380642737 One of my favorite gifts to make are gift baskets. I love that they are easy, and they look big. It's great for neighbors, coworkers, friends and family! The best part is you can personalize each basket with the Cricut Maker! I've put together a list of 25 gift baskets you can make with cricut on the blog. There's something for everyone!
The baskets pictures are from @sewsimplehome, @frogprincepaperie, @stitchesquilting, and @heatherhandmade.

Instagram post 2176745599884575847_380642737 These are the easiest slippers to make (one seam) and they are great for gifts!
1. Measure the length of the foot and around the top of the foot. (If you are making a gift then do your best guess.)
2. Cut out two squares. The sides will be the foot length + two inches. The diagonal will be essentially the heel measurement + one inch. Cut the squares on the bias so the stretchiest part of the fabric is across the diagonal.
3. Fold the square in half across the diagonal. Start sewing halfway on one side then go around the corner in a curve. Sew across the bottom and curve up to the fold two inches from the point.
4. Trim the seam allowances to reduce bulk.
5. Turn the slippers right side out and fold the point down.
6. Sew on a detail like a tassel or pompom.
7. Keep your feet warm all winter!

Instagram post 2175292187187711482_380642737 I received this coat from my aunt and grandmother last winter. It had been worn by both of them and most of the edges were worn out. There is a rich history here since my grandmother raised her kids in Canada. I got it with the approval to refashion it so that it would get worn. A couple of weeks later my grandmother passed away before I got to work on it. When I did work on it it was nice to work with my hands through my grief. Unfortunately, I finished it in the spring and only wore it a handful of times. I loved pulling it out this winter and remembering all the memories. These are the sewing projects that are the most special to me and make seeing truly worth it. I can be wrapped in memories every time I wear this coat.
.
To refashion this coat I used Sherpa to cover and line the worn out edges. Then I lined the body with sherpa and the sleeves with slippery fabric.
