Make an easy skirt in any size with this free flat front skirt pattern. The skirt can be made for any size or age, and it’s really quick to sew. This is a free PDF download that you can save on your computer and refer to any time you want to make it again.
I just really like a skirt that is simple to make like this one, but it has clean lines. I love wearing it because it is unassuming enough to go with everything. The comfort of an flat front skirt and an elastic waist back is amazing. This skirt is great for spring and summer when it’s hot, but you could also wear it in fall and winter with some tights and a sweater!
In this download you will learn how to measure yourself or a child and use those measurements to cut out the pattern pieces. There are some brief sewing instructions, but you can also use the free skirt tutorial with images and a video.
I have sewn this skirt for both myself, an adult, and my two daughters with all of the individual measurements and had great success. These skirts are so simple they are the perfect base for any embellishments you want to add like inseam pockets, patch pockets, a lace overlay, or a DIY border print.
The free flat front skirt pattern works best in a lightweight to a medium weight woven fabric. The best part is you can choose wovens that are easy to work with! You can use fabrics like quilting cotton, chambray, cotton lawn, broadcloth, eyelet, swiss dot, etc.
I used a red chambray for the skirts for my daughters and a linen rayon blend for my skirt. My daughters’ skirts have a little more volume and stand away from their legs, while mine with rayon drapes much closer to my legs.
