It was time for a new dress. My grandmother had been saving a bunch of clothing in her house, so when she passed away I got some of the fabulous vintage clothing. This dress was one of them. The fabric really stood out to me, but not the shape or the size. It was too big for me, and it’s just a giant rectangle.
Don’t miss all these other dress refashions!
What I did was cut off the sleeves and take in the sides. I changed the rectangle shape, so now it comes in at the waist. Then I shortened the sleeves from the top and reattached them. I also shortened the belt. It was a pretty quick refashion. One of my favorite things about this dress? It buttons down the front, so it’s perfect for nursing.
It also looks great with a cardigan. Yay for new dresses and the little pleasure they bring!
If you wonder about these funny pictures and why I’m always looking to the left, my son was on the floor so I was talking to him and playing with him while these pictures were being taken.
If your dress needs more alterations so that you’ll actually wear the dress, you can also: make a dress longer, add sleeves to a dress, add back darts to a dress, raise the neckline, and line a lace dress.
