Learn how to make the Babydoll dress pattern with a little ruffle at the waist! It’s such a cute detail and it’s not too hard!
I loved seeing what all the pattern testers made. Kimberly sewed a dress and added a little ruffle to the waist. Isn’t it the most adorable detail?
I asked if I could share the tutorial and pictures so that anyone can make it, and here it is. The instructions are pretty simple, but it’s a simple sewing tutorial!
This is the short bodice of the Babydoll Dress and Top pattern and it’s the long skirt but extended a little bit. The ruffle is of different fabric so it just steals the show! I love the pairing of the stripes and the floral.

Cut out the skirt pieces as directed by the pattern. Cut out two pieces of the ruffle 2 inches tall and the same width as the skirt.
Sew the side seams of the ruffle with a serger or zigzag stitch. Sew the side seams of the skirt with a serger or a zigzag stitch.
Hem the ruffle with a thin serger stitch or a zigzag stitch. This will create a lettuce hem that is a little wavy and a little stretched out.
Place the ruffle along the top of the skirt with the ruffle facing out and the skirt facing out. (The wrong side of the ruffle with be against the right side of the skirt.)
Line up the raw edges, and pin the edges together. Sew the two rows of basting stitches around the top of the skirt and the ruffle. Gather the skirt and ruffle and sew it to the bodice with right sides together.
